Ink to image is a photo essay about my great grandfather James Sweeny.
In 1874 he set out with five other explorers to travel across the unknown inland of Western Australia.
He kept a diary of the expedition which I inherited.
I traveled out along some of the path he took and photographed the landscape representing the 19 diary entries I chose.
This essay takes the ink diary entries and visualises them with silver gelatin prints.
